Records for Gorey’s early school education are vague.  He skipped first grade and spent two years in a Catholic school.

In November and December 1932, Gorey is in Bradenton Florida staying with relatives. This is documented by a letter to his mother dated November 30, 1932 and a postal telegraph from his mother and father in Chicago.

Apparently Gorey remained in Bradenton Florida until May 1933.  Several letters from classmates document his return to Chicago.

“I am sorry that you are going home to Chicago but I guess you will have a good time.” Signed Zeldee Penning, Bradenton, Fla., and dated May 12, 1933.
