Following the youth revolution of the 1960s, undergraduates pushed to reform outdated practices at their colleges and universities. First, Mundelein students jettisoned their conservative dress code. But change didn’t stop there—students looked with scrutiny upon the college’s general education requirements. Faculty joined student forces for the 1969 Conference on Curriculum, or ConCur, in order to revamp the course catalogue with “tradition-breaking curriculum changes.” In true 1960s fashion, the new curriculum stressed flexibility and independence by handing students the power to individually design their own course of study.
