Methods of Reform

Over time, the reformers of the Chicago Woman’s Club shifted their strategies from a maternalist push for protection of criminal women and delinquent children to a professional argument for the reformatory powers of a healthy environment, proper dress, and industriousness.  Women reformers often viewed criminal women and delinquent children as the victims of urban disorder, and thus considered it their responsibility to protect and reform them.
